You can be forgiven if you have a hard time remembering all the countries affected by travel bans issued by this administration during the last year. Some of the affected countries appear on more than one list; some countries are under a total ban (immigrants and nonimmigrants) while others are only partially banned; some of the bans include exemptions and waivers; and one of the bans is termed only a “suspension.” Two of these bans have been challenged in federal courts with limited outcomes so far. This article summarizes the current status of these bans and the legal challenges. It also provides guidance for practitioners representing clients with consular processing.
